LEGACY

ABOUT JIM CAPALDI

Jim’s inspiring story has many layers, and his many interests outside of music didn’t always get the attention they might have deserved. Click on the links below for three alternative essays specifically about Jim, and the fourth for the Traffic biography released with the announcement of the band’s accession to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

CHARITY

Jim was socially and environmentally conscious, expressing his concerns through lyrics. He supported raising awareness for children in Brazilian favelas. The Jim Capaldi Music & Culture Centre was created in his honor after his passing. The center aims to prevent risky behaviors in children at risk of drug addiction, gang violence, or teenage pregnancies through music and community-building. Donate or learn more via the link below.

ROCK & ROLL
HALL OF FAME

In 2004, Jim entered the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame as a founding member of Traffic. The band were inducted by Dave Matthews, and they performed “Dear Mr Fantasy” for the guests at the ceremony. Their alumni that year were Prince, George Harrison, Jackson Browne, The Dells, Bob Seger and ZZ Top.

The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame exists to honour those who have shaped the history of rock and roll, having at least 25 years of musical excellence before they will be considered for induction.

Tribute Concert

DEAR MR FANTASY

On 21st January 2007, acclaimed broadcaster Bob Harris introduced a sensational line-up of artists gathered at the Roundhouse in London, with all profits going to one of Jim's favourite charities.

The occasion was to celebrate the life and music of Traffic co-founder the late Jim Capaldi who was one of the most significant, and possibly underrated, songwriters of our generation.

The fabulous house band was joined by a stellar line-up to perform their favourite Traffic and Jim Capaldi tracks in front of an enthusiastic full house. A five time winner of BMI or ASCAP awards for most played compositions in America, Jim also worked with many other artists and was a successful solo star in his own right.

His work with Traffic, alongside Steve Winwood & Chris Wood, fuelled a 10 album multi-platinum career for the band and provided a benchmark for other musicians. In 2004 they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

The concert was subsequently released on DVD and CD, with the proceeds donated to help underprivileged and homeless children in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Jim’s work continues there today at the Jim Capaldi Music Center.

This unique concert, already a part of rock history, truly was a night to remember.
